Perhaps there is no skill more important to success in business than Effective Writing. No one is born with an innate skill. Each of us has to learn how to write. Unfortunately, many schools do a poor job of teaching and refining this skill. If your writing skills are holding you back, maybe even causing you embarrassment, this course is for you. You don't have to allow ineffective writing skills affect your career any longer!
You can take this course in complete privacy. No one but you need know that you are taking a writing course, unless you want that to be known. You don't have to go to a classroom! You don't have to publicly submit your writing! This course is done privately over the Internet, and you will in effect have your own private tutor. Be aware, however, you will have to work hard. Learning to improve your writing will take a lot of work, a lot of practice writing, and a lot of reading. There is no magic to it! But Erin Moore, our course author and instructor, has a magic way of personally helping her students. She will individually and constructively coach and critique you as you progress through the course. You will read, read, read! You will write, write, write! Your writing will improve, and you will gain new confidence in your skills.
There are a number of goals that are integral to making this course effective for you. These are goals for both the student and instructor.
Learn techniques for generating good ideas and for organizing my materials quickly and easily. |
Learn to think deeply and creatively as you write and to trust your own instincts. |
Learn to write correctly so that your readers trust and respect what you have to say. |

| Learn to deal with writing anxiety and to carry your projects from chaos to clarity with confidence and pleasure. |
Learn basic skills for gathering information on subjects that interest you or are assigned to you. |
Learn to use writing as a way to express your values, knowledge, ideas, and goals. |
| Develop powers of concentration and focus. |
Whether you take this course simply to improve your writing skills, or because you love to write, or even because you hate to write as a result of your perceived lack of skill, you need to adopt these goals for yourself, and any others that are personal to you. This course is structured to instruct in the basics of writing, while asking you to apply these lessons to your everyday life. While the lessons and assignments are structured for business, anyone from any occupation will benefit from the course. While the lessons deal with the basics of writing, please again do not think this will be an easy course. Any course is as hard or as easy as the effort you put into it. You will need to put all of your effort into each assignment. If you are not in business and find the assignments don't help your line of work, Erin will work with you to find comparable assignments. It is important to re-emphasize that this course is designed not only to improve your writing skills, but also to help you enjoy writing and expressing yourself. No matter what you may be writing, remember that "Everybody is talented, original, and has something important to say." -Brenda Ueland
